Hi to all you fishy experts
I am having a great deal of problem with hard water and was wondering if I could use a water purifier to carry out my water changes As I have a a 66gal tank it takes some doing, filling all thoes buckets, not to mention the hight which I have to lift them.
I have seen a twin pod filter advertised on e-bay the first pod is a pre filter and the second is solid carbon. AsI have quite a few plants in my tank will this filter make the water too pure and take all the minerals out as in R.O. water or should it be Ok. I asked the shop who are selling it but as they only use them for ponds they were not too sure. At present I am having to buy R.O. water to dilute my own but this is becomming very tyresome and the shop is a 20min drive each way. many thanks

mike

Why don't you just buy a small RO system.

I thought a purifier would be easier than the RO unit because of the need to add the required minerals etc when using an RO unit (is this simply a bottle aditive and would I have to test to ensure correct levels, ??) not sure how the RO works

Sorry to be thick but what is a Python and how does it work where can I get info

Thanks

An R/O unit works by forceing water under presure through a skin like menbrane, its like a fine mesh, so fine it lets the small water molicules through trapping the other stuff at the other side.

R/O water is about 80 to 98% pure water ie free from minerals, metals, chemicals, organic solids, nitrates etc depending on the water quality in your area.

All you have to do is add tap water or eg kent R/O right in the righr quanity to reminralise the water and bring it to the correct GH and Ph at first this takes a little exsperimenting, but after a while it becomes second nature.

a twin filter system would be fine for a fresh water tank.

RO is only really required for marine.

It takes out to many minerals for a fresh water setup.

i have a 3 stage unit for my tank.
i just run the hose to the unit then a hose to my tank and done.
