Water problem

The last tank I set up as always looked dark,I put it down to the black background,I've been doing water changes,did one this morning and removed the black background,even after the water change the water looks green,how can i stop it doing this?

Green water? Sounds like a type of algae to me. How are your nitrates? Are nitrates and/ or phosphorous present in your tap water? They could be fueling an algae problem. Live plants may help by bringing down the nitrates, pwc's could help too. How often do you perform pwc's?
