ok so i put water in my 55 gallon tank at 8pm on december 21 and now it is december 22 at 2:20 i put in the chemicals i needed so when can i add my fish?

So you are not doing a fishless cycle, usually 2 days before you can add fish, though you would be better off in the long run doing a fishless cycle, so you don't harm any fish on the way.

The easiest method to cycle a tank is to get the cheapest possible fish you can bye ,1 or 2 is usualy sufficient (they are usualy the hardiest)eg. goldfish, platies
Keep an eye on the ammonia levels and change 1/3 of the water weekly or as needed.Have as much Aeration as possible.
To complete cycle can take upto 8 weeks, thats why its best to use cheap fish.Bacteria additives supplied by your LFS can speed up the process, and will help lower the ammonia levels.

Hope this helps
and goodluck

Actually, the easiest way is a fishless cycle (see link in my signature). You don't have to worry about water cahgnes to keep the toxins low or losing fish. You will also be finished in about 3 weeks and can add ALL your fish at once rather than 2 to 4 at a time and going through the same process again with the ammonia and nitrite.

If you decide to cycle with fish, you can add a couple hardy ones (like wdrury said, danios are also hardy) as soon as the water is in and clear. Just keep a close eye on the ammonia and nitrite as they will definitely rise and you will have to do daily water changes to keep them down. Just keep in mind that the tank will only be cycled for the number of fish you have. If you start with 2 fish and go through the process with them, your tank will be cycled for 2 fish. When you add 3 more, you will again have ammonia and nitrite present. Once that passes and you add 3 more, you get more ammonia.
