 Hello

I have had fish for many years and have learned all I know by mistakes. The thing is since I have moved house my water gh has nearly doubled. Now I know dip test strips are frowned upon but its what I got so my results are

No[sub]3[/sub] ( mg/l) 25 ( not noramlly this high btw)
No[sub]2[/sub] ( mg/l) 0

GH >16 [sup]o[/sup]d
KH 15 [sup]o[/sup]d
PH 7.2

I know the hardness has doubled as I need to descale the Kettle more often lol

I need to know what I can do to improve my Fishes water but also need you to realise I have 4 tanks and one is open toped and requires about 30l top up per week so cant be too costly

What do you all think am I worrying over nothing????

One way to fight the high hardness is to do water changes instead of topping up. When the water is down 10%, take out another 20% and then add back. It will keep the hardness from building up as fast.

Agree with oldman.

Are you giving us the tap or the tank results?

Your stats don't look like they would cause much problem. If you want to get serious about really checking them you indeed would need to get liquid-reagent based test kits. API or Nutrafin for the main kits and you'd probably have to buy a separate KH or GH/KH kit. GH is not a stat that we generally take action on but KH is quite useful to know.
