So I recently got a 20 gallon tank. My local pet store says it would be better to get water from them because my citys water has a naturally high PH. But I don't have enough jugs to get 20 gallons. Would it be OK to try tap water with water conditioner or should I go with the pet stores water. And btw I'm getting corys and I know they like soft water too.

Unless you plan on breeding use tap with a good water conditioner. I'm sure the local shop would love for you to buy water from them, plenty of people near me breed corys in tap with a pH of 7.6, gH around 180.

Ok, I don't plan on breeding. Any recommendations on good water conditioner?

Seachem Prime or Tetra Aquasafe. I've used Prime for years, Aquasafe is more expensive to use but generally easier to find.
