The Water flea or Daphnia
is a very good live food for fish. it can be collected throughout the year.however in the winter months there will be a short of supply.
I find the best time to collect it is from march to September.

This is one of the places where I collect daphnia. by the end of June this pool of water will dry up

all you need to collect Daphnia is a fine mesh net and a bucket.

In the summer months when there are plenty of Daphnia I freeze some of it and feed to fish when in short of supply.

is that the same stuff you find in like a water butt? i have a neighbor who has several ponds and water butts, from spring to summer there are these little things moving about, like larvae?
