Do you have several of them at different sizes? Do you know how those forlimbs work, I dont want to be an alarmist but I seem to recall mantis shrimp nymphs looking a bit like that.

Yeah it looks like a mantis for sure!

But it could be a pod. an outstreched pod looks very similar also.

Do a search for copopods and amphipods. see if these match your creature. you can also search for mantis shrimps. these are usually more colourful but there are colours that are similar to this.

sorry no reply for so long, I totally forgot. Yeah, its an amphipod. And *they* were apparently quite yummy for my other crusties to eat.... as evidenced by how far out of his shell my electric blue got in his quest to eat them!
