Since this is a Prime related question I thought I would ask here...

Is water treated with Prime safe for pets to drink? Sometimes the dog likes to sneak drinks out of the water change bucket... I know on the back it says that it should not be used in water for human consumption, but I wasn't sure if that was just because they wanted to avoid the hassle of getting FDA approval or if there really was something unhealthy about it. I know that while Ethoxyquin is often used as a preservative in fish food it's considered unhealthy for dogs and cats, so of course I can't be sure if Prime treated water is safe.

i would say not as water conditioners neutralise the things that are put in to make the water suitable for human consumption (chlorine etc), however i have no understanding of this works but i would err on the side of caution.

also how do you know what your dog could be leaving in the water your about to put in your fish tank?.

I've spilled counless gallons of water treated with Prime on my fishroom floor, my last dog, who left us in June at the age of 15, drank countless slurps of treated water off the fishroom floor. My new dog, who is just shy of 4 months, has just started this tradition of slurping up spills in the last couple of weeks, now that he understands a few basic commands & is doing well with potty training.

As far as fish food goes, the last guy ate flakes & such that hit the floor, and expected an algae tab or two every evening. I don't see this pup being any different, other aquarists I know who have dogs have told me that dogs seem to like algae tabs the best.

This makes me wonder if the occasional dog is allergic to bloodworms, or other fish food components, just like humans. Some breeds are prone to allergies.

my dog gets real sick from bloodworms, she craps all over the place.

Some fish foods (note that I said some) can irritate pets. You will want to check you lables and make sure that the crude protien or crude fiber isn't too rich for your pets. The live food additives in the foods are the main culprits. Also, every pet reacts differently.
