Does anyone know if you can buy a water treatment that adds a blue tint to the tank water (without affecting the fish/plants)? Someone told me that there used to be a product available when he used to keep tropical fish (many years ago)

Thanks

For effect only to add to the ambience of the tank. Plus i like blue!

Why don't you buy a blueish picture background and then your lighting will give you the effect, or you can buy a cool blue tube which casts a tint of blue from the lighting tube. B)
You could Methylene Blue, :-( but I wouldn't advise it. It is used as a medicine, but is very harsh on plants and inverts. It will tend to dye the silicone in your tank also.BUT it is BLUE! :p

Thanks for the info, i take it the cool blue tube would be ok for the plants and fish?

Blue tube, still has the white light spectrum. So unless you have a jungle in your tank, a blue tube should still be fine.

I use a dechlorinator that makes the water blue. Looks very unnatural if you ask me.

Fortunately unless I am setting up a new tank iit doesn't stick around for long.

Ian.
ps, if you want I can find out the name of it.
Still Ian.

They make blue backgrounds and lights but I am not sure how good the lights would be for live plants. I know that they sell red lights that are supposed to make the fish look brighter but I don't know how good any of the colored lights actually look when they are used.
