just had a thought it might be a good idea to have a seperate area specifically for water chemistry topics and questions. There's quite a few of them and not really anywhere proper for them to live.

one issue is whether you group coldwater, tropical and marine questions together or have them as sub-forums in each type?

yeah I wasn't sure about that, maybe a seperate one for each as it can vary massively (well for FW and SW it does, I don't really know much about coldwater so can't comment). anyway see what people think would be most useful.

I completely agree that this could be a good addition to the forums. I'd have 1 section called water chemistry with 4 subsections. Marine, brackish, coldwater and tropical. Some of these sections might not get used a lot at all (marine & brackish) and might be better off in the for sections already on the forum.

However, tropical and coldwater would make a very good section for starters to check and compare their readings to those of other tanks. It will also be easier for them to find a thread in which someone has the same problem with their water than it will be to find the exact problem in a pinned topic. A lot of people do not have the patience to read through a pinned topic (if they can even find it) and if they do, it's often hard to understand because it isn't quite written as a one person to another problem guide.

Already asked and it wasn't a good idea, as i thought a water quality part would be good for beginners.

Although I think it's a good idea, I'm not sure how much we can split down our sections before it becomes 'kooky'. Eg, :

Fish I.D. Section
Water Chemistry Section
etc.

yeah I know, you can go too far with breaking things down like that. got to remember the 3 click rule. sometimes people just won't wanna search around that much to find things.
