hey there has problem been a topic on this but im getting tired of doing my water changes with a 3 gallon bucket in my 4ft tank so just wondering what some quicker ways ? i was wondering if having a 10 gallon bucket with a hose in attached to a power head so i can re fill the tank quicker with the power head doing the work ?i have heard of pythons but im not totally sure what they are.

I bought some hose, attached the syphon to it and syphoned it downstairs into the sink...then to refill the tank I got a tap attachment. I think you can use the hose to syphon without the actual syphon too... as when I took the tap attachment off it started sucking water out of the tank rather than in

I've seen those powerhead things and they seem to work :good:

whats wrong with a good old bucket and a length
of inch and a half pipe i used to do seventeen
tanks like that for years till i got a python
if you fish can live in it it wont do you that
much harm if you got the odd moth full you could
see if you could get hold of a plastic 25 ltr barrel
or if your near a window or door to the out side
a longer hose strait out side hit the link and have a read
about it

hey ye there isn't really any need to suck on the tube you can just shake the end in the tank water till you create the flow. and ye it think i will be getting a python but i was just wondering how it gets the water from the sink into the tank if the tank is higher than the sink. also where is the best place to get a python from in the uk cheers

I used to be part of the bucket-water-change clan but no more :)

I've now got a length of hose, used a hose coupling fitting to connect the hose to my siphon and now siphon the tank which is in the lounge straight into the downstairs toilet. To fill up I just run the garden hose from outside straight into the tank except last week where unknown to me the wife had broken the hose to tap connector so out with the good old bucket it was :)

A python is a simple tool. It is a hose that runs from a sink to your tank. Once you get the temperature adjusted to the desired value, you switch the flow path to send water down the hose and fill your tank. It is much like using a garden hose to fill the tank but is a bit easier to set up each time. Dechlorinator is added during the fill, or at several points during the fill.

ah thank you just cautious about having tap water in the tank might have to look into making one this summer cheers

A python or similar arrangement can be set up for filling your tanks. Many of the water bed filling adapters will work fine for filling a large aquarium. The real difficulty is getting the water temperature well enough matched to the tank temperature and then using dechlorinator to treat the water during the fill process. I do not use a python because I am young enough, even as an old man, to haul a few 5 gallon buckets and I am not comfortable enough with a python to use it an the dechlorinator that I have. I feel much better doing water additions and dechlorination as a batch process.
