reading through posts you all do regular water changes and some of you do immediate 30% changes in emergancies etc

i take it i have to leave water standing with de - chlorine stuff aplied atleast 24 hrs before doing any changes?

do you lot keep a stash in a container etc for emergencies then?

If you use declorinator (which you pretty much should), you can pretty much add the water immediately. Declorination is effectively immediate assuming some agitation.

The thing to remember is temperature. It's best to have the new water be as close to the current tank temp as possible. Don't shock your fish with very warm or very cold water.

HTH

And welcome!

I personally keep a jug of water on hand. As soon as I use it, I fill it up immediately, put some dechlorinator in it and let it sit until the next change. That way, it's room temp, pretty close to the tank's temp.

It's easiest for me, cause I don't have to try to get the temp right. I just have a special place to keep the jug, cause it can get in the way. :)

I keep 2 three gallon jugs and let it sit until the next water change, however i boil water from the tap during water change and add it on to the new water to match the tanks temp and put dechlorinator on it... :D and I only vacuum the gravel once a month...

I use hot and cold tap water with dechlorinator - I just haven't got the space to store water jugs and with the size of my tanks, they'd have to be barrels and not jugs. If you use a good dechlorinator and make sure that the temp is approx the same as the tank, there's no problem using tap water.

With dechlorinator, it should work almost immediately. If you don't have a dechlorinator, it is reccomended that you let the water sit in a bucket with the top open for at least 24-48 hours.
