I was doing a water change very late last night when I woke up in the middle of the night. I try to change some water in the fry tank a few times a week. In the middle of the water change I saw one little fry stuck in the vacuum! He was swimming his hardest but couldn't get out and was stuck half way up the tube! I stopped the siphon as soon as I could and he seems to be ok. Its the first time something like that has happened to me!

doncha just hate that???? i did that last week to my adult black lyretail molly. she's the smallest of my mollies, and she's black. and i still have black gravel in one half of my tank (slowly switching to natural so i can see my fish from above when i clean.......), and i pulled the vac up to go intoa plant and she swam right underneath, didn't see her until she was halfway up the tube. stupid fish. theyre always so curious about the syphon when i put it in. i have to be so careful not to suck up the babies or little panda cories in there, never thought one of the adults would be the problem!!!!! :p

Hey, I know a little trick that will keep you from having to stop the syphon completely, and keep the fry (or adult) from getting a water slide.....

If you spot the fishie in the syphon, simply pinch off the tube. That will halt the flow, allow the fishie to swim out, but NOT stop your syphon. Once fishie gets out, move the syphon away from it, unpinch and you still get suction.

Obviously I have had this happen :fun:
