Okay peeps, had my tank set up and running for a while (couple of months) it is partially stocked and have been adding a couple of fish every 2 weeks. I have been closely monitoring the water quality and it is currently near perfect (ammonia - ideal, nitrite - ideal, nitrate - low). When do i need to do water changes? is it dependant on water quality or should it be a regular task regardless?

what size tank have you got?
What fish and size?
Live Plants?

Thanks for the quick reply :)

tank size is 100cm x 50cm x 40cm
fish: 9 Neons (small), 8x corys (approx 3cms) which have just spawned 8 fry which will be re-homed once they're big enough, 2 stone suckers (2cms) and 1 bristle nose plec (3cms)
Plants: loads of plants, all doing quite well as you can see from the picture below

Being lightly stocked and heavily planted would explain your great parameters, which coule probably stay stable for some time.

However, there are other random toxins that do slowly accumulate in a tank, so you'll still want to do occasional water changes. Even if your parameters stay good, you should probably do a 25% water change every 2 weeks or so.

Congrats on such a healthy and happy tank.
