My house took an arrow to the knee today and i've got no hot water so until it's sorted;
Will kettle water be okay to use to warm up cold water for water changes or even the shower?

The 55g will be a problem though, im guessing smaller cold water changes would be okay?
Maybe a hose from next doors taps to my 55g? hahaa!!

I never use hot water for my water changes, just cold. The fish seem to like it that way especially the cats.

Kettle water will be fine, might be a little harder, but will be fine for an emergency. I only add a small amount of warm when doing the 340 as its such a big body of water, and the heater doesnt take long to heat it.

I find 1 kettle load (1.8L) will warm a 12l bucket of cold to tank temp nicely.

I always use an outside tap to do my waterchanges so you can imagine how cold that can be, and have done for 8 or so years and have never had an issue,

just so long as you fill it slowly it should be fine

I normally use a mixer tap, try to keep the water as close to the tank temp as possible as cold water changes can encourage my GTs to breed.
I'll do a few small cold water changes on the 55g and use kettle for the 20g.

Got no central heating either at mo, might have to get into the tank myself if it gets any colder :lol:

Thnx for info :good:

lol, if you dont mind being a wet 22-27'C, why not!

I temp match the smaller tank just because its a smaller body of water, dont want to shock the poor things! You'll be alright with the above :)

It's all about proportion, anything less than 25% is fine to do without temperature matching.
