Whats the best way to add new water to an aquarium?

Should I put water into a jug then add the solution to get rid of chlorine then poor it into the aquariume (if so how long should the solution sit in the water jug before I put it into the aquarium?)

OR

should I poor tap water into the aquarium then add the de-chlorine solution into the tank?

Thanks for responding, I appreciate the help for us newbies.

Mix the water coniditioner with the water before adding to the tank. Mix and let it sit a few minutes. Same temp. is important, too. :D

Never add tap water to your tank directly. It can be lethal to your fish.

Get your self a Large bucket, are's is 10 litre's. When making to the right temp, dom't use your hot tap, it better to boil a kettle and add as much as needed.

Some place the hot water comes through copper piping, witch some fish and snails can't tollerate.

HTH's

how would you use the pthon hose than if you can't add water directly to your tank and then add the de-chlorinator??

i'm confused on how to use the stuff now :( .

Ive been told that u add enough dechlroinator to treat the entire tank then add the tap water directly after.

With a python, I just connect the python to the tap and turn the tap water on. Go to the tank and add the dechlor right to the stream of water coming out. It's how I've always done it.

i don't add dechlorinator for the full tank, just the quantity I'm adding in. This is what most people here do.

It's better to add it before pouring the water in (like if you ahve a bucket to treat the water in)

People who can't do this (say you ahve a 200 gallon tank and need to do a 20% water change) you just pour in water with a pythn or something and add dechlorinator as you go.

The dechlorinator acts instantly

Just dose for the volume of water you are dealing with. For smaller non-python changes it is easier and more economical to treat just the new water. For large tanks, especially those with pythons, it is easiest to treat the whole tank. For example if you are doing a 10 gal change in a 40 gal you could do two things. You could dose the 10 gal of new water and then add it to the tank. This is best for normal siphon water changes. Alternatively, and this is a must with a python, you could dose the tank itself with enough for 40 gal and then add the tap water.
