Hi

OK stupid question time.

How do i do a 20% water change on my tank, how do i measure the ammount i take out and the ammount i put in? I have a 127 ltr tank and 20% of this would be 25.5 ltrs. I know that the water i put back needs to be treated but i've not got a bucket big enough to hold 25 ltrs. I've got a syphon kit and a bucket.
What i need is a dummies guide to step by step water change.
Cheers.

Hi Taz

Simply measure the hieght of the water and devide in to 5 equal parts. Syphon off the first part from the top, there you have removed 20%. Now you need to add new, conditioned water. By conditioned I mean dechlorinated with some form of water conditioner. Also make sure the temp is the same or as close as poss to the tank temp, I use the thermometer from my tank, though I have got pretty good at telling the temp by hand, its amazing how cold 72f feels when you have had your hand in 79f water for a minute, try it, its easy.

I bought 2 buckets for my water changes. I have a 20g tank and my buckets hold about 6-7 gallons soi can do 25% water changes.

The day before my water change I fill up a bucket, put in conditionner and let it rest for a day

then when i'm ready, i use my syphon and empty the the tank into the bucket, until i'm pretty sure the water qties are pretty much the same in both buckets.

Then I adjust the temperature by adding hot water in my bucket. Of course, you need to treat this water too. When the temperature seems good, i slowly pour it into the tank.

Voila, water changed.
