after my tank has gone through cycling when should i do the first water change?

Best to do it relatively soon after the cycle is done, before you add any livestock.

Al second that. Do one straight after, 50 percent+. It will get rid of any remaining ammonia/nitrites and make the water nice and clean for your first fishys!
