well its about time for my first water change and im not absolutly sure how to go about it. i have 2 fish and some crabs in there now. 30 gal tank. i think im supposed to get a 5gal bucket ready with the right salinity and temp and just take 1/3 the water out of the tank and put the new stuff in but this is the very frist time to change the water on the newly established tank. so can anyone lead me to the exact way i should go about this? thanks for any help.

What you've described there is right. Get water up to salinity/temp, drain 5g (gravel vacuming if possile) and add the newly mixed 5g

thanks again, and again ski. not as hard as i thought.

I think you could say that for a lot marine fish keeping.

It's certainly not the dark art I assumed it to be before I started my tank, it just needs a bit more maintenance and attention to detail that the majority of FW tanks.

Just make sure you give your water plenty of time to mix and stablise before adding it to the tank.
