When completing a water change do I just add the siphon (spelling) into the water or do i actually push it deep into the sand to get all the waste out?

Also when I just pushed the heater right into the bucket (water changing bucket with RO water and salt) a little bit of dirt came off it, I tried to get it out with the net but I fear I might have to start again for the 3rd time! Will I be ok? It's looks ok to me

if its sand u just lightly skim it as u will suck up your sand. but i wldnt worry to much about the water it shld be fine, if u still woryy try putting a net where u will por it in so then it gets caught. but i mean some times i get cat hairs in my tank lol! still its fine

I siphon the substrate once a month or if it gets dirty looking. I place the siphon into the substrate so the sand tumbles, but, keep the tubing pinched to keep the sand from being sucked up. If you completely pinch it off it will allow all the sand to return and you can keep it from falling on top of your corals. SH
