Anyone else spending their Saturday doing water changes? I am just finishing up tank 2 of 4. Now gotta take a break, since I am out of hot water. Lol.

Yep. Just changed both my tanks! I am burned out with water changes for the week.

I was gone for a week, so the first 2 I did, haven’t had a water change in almost 2 weeks. I changed the other 2, the day I got back, then our water pump broke, and we had to wait for the city to fix it. Didn’t have enough water pressure to get the python to work. I probably could have done them manually, but that is too much work. My back can’t handle all the buckets.

I was pretty impressed though, gone for 7 days, and only lost a single dwarf frog. Hubby overfed the tanks and they were a mess. Expected way more casualties. But nope. Everyone else is all good.

Sorry about your African dwarf frog, but thank goodness all your fish didn't die.
I have to do my 5.5 and 10 gallon tanks manually, the bucket gets so heavy when I clean out the 10 that I have to have help carrying it....hah...

I have a Python water changer. It has been a game changer for me. But I also have a 55g and 2-20g. I do use the python on the 6.8g too, but that is on my kitchen counter. It would be super easy to change without using the python. I just figure while I have the siphon going, might as well do that one too. It takes me under 10 minutes to clean the small tank.

I had only had the frogs for about a week before I left. It wasn’t planned for me to be gone so long, I thought it was going to be 2 nights, ended up being 6. I had 3 to start with, so the other 2 are fine. They have some fat bellies, so they are definitely eating enough lol

I use to clean on Sunday but since I retired early I now do it on Monday. I agree though, the Python is a game changer! I can do 7 tanks and a garden pond in about 3 hours. Of course, it depends on how many breaks I take!

I’m down to one change a month! But with three 120G tanks, I run out of hot water too.

I just have two Betta tanks. One is 5.5 gallons and the other 2.5 gallons.
Today I did a 25% water change and vacuumed the bottom of the 5.5 gallon and just a simple 20% water change on my 2.5 gallon. That tank is not due for vacuuming yet. Because both tanks are still cycling I do water changes frequently.

Anytime I have a tank sitter I have one of those pill boxes old folks use to sort their medication in. I have specific portions and types for each day per tank. Really helps to keep the routine and make it simple for people who don't follow detailed directions well.

Well because it wasn’t a planned occurrence, I didn’t leave anything set up. I wasn’t going to have them fed at all, since it was going to be 2 nights. It turned into 6, so hubby fed them a few times. But the tanks were a disaster by the time I got home. I’m thinking he fed them twice a day, the amount I meant for once per day.

Ugh, so sorry about that. I came home from a trip once to find my betta not doing good. He died the day after sadly. Not really sure what happened but it was probably ammonia spike since I had no idea what the nitrogen cycle was since this was over a year ago...whoops.
