Im planning to do a daily 25-30% water change for the next few days because my tank is getting up to 30 degrees celcius... can i just get water straight from the tap and dechlorinate it and chuck it straight in the tank? i am planning to bring down the temp about 4 degrees... is this alrite?
I got no other way to try and cool this tank... it has been getting up to 37-40 degrees and im actually pretty lucky my tanks are only 30 degrees.

doing that may cause your fish to stress (temp changes all the time)
4 degrees is quite a lot.

Try getting fans to blow on your tanks instead

If you drop the temp by 4 degrees it far to much , you should do it gradually, or you will cause whitespot.

im having real trouble keeping it cool tho... what should i do? i already have a fan blowing over the top... i going to get an airstone in there today... lids are off.. heater off... what more can i do?

To bring down the temperature by 4 degree with 25% water change, the tap water has to be at 14 degrees. I don't think your tap water will be that cold in (your) summer.

What kind of fish do you have? All tropical fish will do fine at 30c. Another 3-4 degrees could be a problem.

i got panda cories and a betta...
heard cories don't do too well ... i've read that 28-29 degrees is the max for cories... that is only for the ones that prefer warmer waters as well...

Cooling off the water by a couple of degrees doing a water change will not harm the fish, especially if you can find a way to trickle the water in at a slower pace (I just use the python for it). Fish can handle the temperature fluctuation as long as it isn't instantaneous.

If your tap water is 25 C and the tank water is 30C, and you do a 25% water change, that will drop the temperature by about 1 C. Do a water change and check. I would also use ice cubes in ziplock style bags to try to cool it a bit further. Just keep one eye on the bags so the cubes don't escape and the other on the temperature, you don't want it dropping too fast. I haven't had to try it but I wouldn't be surprised if that drops your temp pretty quick. Good luck.

P.S. Here's an idea! [WARNING: Use this suggestion at your own peril!] Freeze tank water in ice cube trays and put them into your filter. ;)

thx everybody... well i ended up doing a 30% water change and i took the lids of the tank and turned the heater off. Put the fan on blowing the top of the tank... put an airstone in ... and pumped up the airpump for my sponge filter... managed to get it down to 26 degrees... all is good at the moment... its going to be cooler tomorrow ... 22 degrees!! :D
