Hi
I seem to get these in the pond 1 or 2 at a time.
Approx 1/2 size of a normal ladybird, similar shape and black.
They kinda swim/skim/scuttle around the bottom of the pond, sometimes at a great rate of knots.
I normally turf the things out if i can get them with the net.

Any ideas what they are and if they are friendly or a pest

Thanks

without a picture it is hard to say exactly what it is but most water beetles are harmless to most fish. Some of the bigger beetles will eat fry (baby fish) and many will eat fish eggs but they don't normally cause any problems to adult fish.

Hi
Thanks for the info.
I would take a photo but cannot find the macro lense for camera to do a close up (cheap digi camera)
