hey evey1
1 of my school rooms has a fish tank and we need to know how to sex neons, and wat are good tankmates for em

Neon tetras can begin breeding by about nine months of age. Neons will breed in tanks with other fish but due to the likelihood that the eggs will be eaten, they are most often bred in a small, seperate tank with a pair or small group of neons. Each female produces 60 to 130 eggs all over the plants and ground. The eggs are not sticky and so the parents should be removed immediately to ensure that they don't eat the eggs. The eggs are prone to fungus and also are light sensitive so try to keep the tank as dark as possible, once the fry have hatched feed them on liquifeed and infusoria.

good tankmates for them are any other peacfeul community fish - for example, livebearers, other tetras, corydoras catfish, otocinclus, small loaches, danios, cherry barbs...depends what size the tnak is tho :)

what tank size is it tony?

If you can take a tape measurer to school you can mesure it. Get the length, width and height. Multiply them all together and then multiply that product by .00433 and that gives you volume in US gallons.

ok thanks to fish buddy, the tanks size is 25 gallons, and all they have in it are 4 neons, 1 of wich is staying secluded behind a rock :/ ?

you could do with at least two more neons as it will help them feel more secure

is the hiding neon showing any other symptoms or is he just hiding? when did he start doing this? how long has the tank been set up?

it might be nothing to worry about  cos my tetras have "sulks" where a partciular fish stays in the same plant for months, then comes out....:/

hi there,
neons like to be in a group to feel safe a couple more would be good as said + females are noticably much plumper around their bellies than the sleek slimline boys if you see the 2 sexes together you cant mistake them :D
