ok so I was sitting down in my chair doing my home work, study and thinking about my fishless cycle and where to get ammonia from (like what stores would carry pure ammonia)so then I thought couldn't you just use your urine? has any one ever tried this or done this?

It has indeed been done. I cannot recommend it but urine does contain urea which will give you nitrogen in your tank. On the other hand, urine contains a lot more than ammonia and things that produce ammonia. I am sure that I do not want all of the other things in my tank. Living in CT, just use the nearest Ace-True Value store and get a gallon for a bit more than a dollar. It is a lifetime supply for cycling tanks. I think I may have used a cup of it over the last 4 or 5 years to cycle all of my tanks and to maintain the cycle on unused tanks until it was time to restock them.

ok,i do have an ace about 2 miles from my house :good: will do that plus since i am diabetic i would have more unwanted things im my urine so i will stick with ace the helpful place

As has been repeated so many times, it will be with the cleaning supplies. The label on mine says Blue Ribbon Clear Ammonia.

There should only be a little bit of ammonia in your urine. In mammals, waste ammonia is converted into urea which is less toxic than ammonia. There are bacteria that process urea, but they aren't the same bacteria that process ammonia. So, urine in the tank wouldn't be terribly useful.

theoretically, there should be no ammonia whatsoever in pee. The medium itself is rich enough for, as stated, a number of bugs to come in and start degrading urea into ammonia. If you wait long enough, chemical equilibrium minutia will ultimately produce trace amounts of ammonia.

 gadz! why would you even think about it (not you personally) but the people who have tried and tested this
