I was wondering if anyone could help identify a problem I'm having at the moment. In the last month I have had two fish die after showing strange symptoms. They go from being healthy, active fish to very subdued with a characteristic deforming of the body shape in a matter of hours. One zebra danio died from it and now one of the M. Praecox is showing the same signs. It's hanging near the surface and its back is almost completely straight (as opposed to the typical rainbowfish humped look). It's head has been pulled back and its mouth is never quite shut. The breathing is very slightly laboured and it is not eating. It actually looks a little better now but I'm not holding out much hope for it.
I've looked around the web for info but can't find anything that fits the symptoms. Any help is gratefully received.

Ta,

Sounds like internal parasite to me. Do they also look skinny?

How old are the fish?Danios get all bendy at about 3 to 4 years old and then die, rainbows could be the same?

They are all young fish. The tank has only been going for 4 months. The rainbowfish is not particularly skinny but the danio did not look as rounded as it used to. The rainbowfish is looking better now, even in the last few hours. Her shape is returning to its usual form and it has even started moving back to the shoal, albeit not participating to much in the normal shoal antics.
