hi i have jus joined today as i am looking into starting a marine fish tank for my bedroom. I have no experience in marine so i need to get a few tips if that is possible. I jus want fish no corals at the moment until i am a bit more knowledgable on them.

I have being to my local fish store that sell a good variety of marine fish and asked what i need but im not sure how much they know about them so i thought i would ask the experts.

What will i need to get 1 started and where abouts can i get them from in england and how much money will it cost. I have a fish tank already which is 2ft length by 1ft deep and 1ft wide. Is this tank ok for a marine FO tank. I can get a new 1 if i have to that is bigger. And also can i put false rock in to start with to get a nice coral effect or is this not wise????

hope some1 can help me as i do really want to start 1 as soon as poss. jus need to know what i have to do to maintain a good tank and what i need for such size of tank

thanks everybody hope you can help me

apparently bigger is better (more water so waste is diluted), 50-75 gallons is a good starting size ( I think), and if you do want to keep corals soon you may as well buy T5 lighting now so you avoid paying more. Also, live rock is the filtration and so fake probably won't do.

Wait for someone else other than me though

Have a read of some of the Pinned Posts sbove & also this post regarding Converting from freshwater this will give you some ideas of the hardware you will need and the questions you need us to answer

PS It would be possible to setup a Reef or FOWLR with your current tank (I questimate it is around the 20g UK mark) but you will be restricted in the livestock you can keep

Del :good: :good:

ok thats great. is it true that you have to change water every week??? 1 of my friends mentioned it too me
so i should maybe get a bigger tank and get a internal instead of coral will do the job ok???

thanks

Yes, you will have to change your water every week if you want to keep DOC's (dissolved organic compounds) down and your other trace elements supplimented. I also would advise a larger tank especially if its going to be fish only. You're kind of limited as far as fish goes in a 20g
