Hi Guys,

I wonted some more pitbulls to get a school going, so went to the pitbull tank in my local petsathome (mistake I know! - but I was impatient!) and asked for 4 of them.... the ones I could see were all the same size and age.

I get them home, float them, do a water change before introduction etc. then when I inspect each one before release I realise what I've got!

My tank is big enough for all of them, but the temperature is 22'C, now from what I can find online, the bulldog prefers 23'C but the bristlenose is fine at 22'C correct?

Will all these rather similar catfish get on? (there are 4 large hollow skulls in the tank)...

Cheers!

Error!

You should check every single plec you ever buy for a hollow belly and sunken eyes, crazy not to.

Having said that, if you asked for 4 pitbulls and got those I would take them back and get what you wanted.

Chaetostoma (bulldog) like cooler water as you have discovered but a very high current and highly oxygenated, they come from mountain streams at altitude.

Bulldog (Chaetostoma) come from a wide range of temperatures, as low as 13C and as high as ~25C, there are >30 species. Can you get a photo for some sort of ID? Excellent water rippling from ~8x or more water water turnover is pretty important and I'd imagine 22C will be fine until you can get specific identification.

Did the p@h tank have other Pitbulls left in the tank after you took your four home?

Hi there,

cheers for the info, yep I checked all the fish in the tank :) for full bellies etc. (these other fish were in a cocunut cave that got disturbed).

I can't get a photo yet (they are still settling in) the tank has a good flow already (going for a cooler river setup) with sand, plants etc. and I have a power head on the way too.

The bulldog is tiny (about 2cm at most and very young), there's one larger bristlenose, one smaller and the pitbull (the idea being to go with my existing pitbull). (looks like C. cf. thomsoni)

I've been observing, and there's been no actual fighting so far, though lots of vying for space and one upmanship etc. (much more activity than I'm usd to which is great!).

So, as long as they are all happy at 22'C I'm happy, I don't mind a little variety (as I am a catfish fan).

We'll see how things sort themselves out!

Once I can get some pics (once theyve settled) I'll get back to you :)

Yes I think your right!

Again he's very small and grey (rather cute) so can't be certain, but thats roughly what he looks like :)

Cheers!

i would say it is almost certain to be that or C. milesi if bought at Pats at home, those are the only 2 species I have seen commonly sold.

Milesi looks quite different so go with 444.
