Hey guys i want to start a saltwater tank. Right now i have a 46 gallon freshwater tank. Anyway i was maybe thinking of starting a 10 gallon saltwater or if thats too small maybe a 20 gallon tank. I would like to know step by step on how to start a saltwater tank and a list of the matterials that i will need. I dont mind spending the money because i love fish but i dont want to start with the most expensive equitment something in the middle not too expensive but not too cheap. I dont think i want to keep live rock or coral in there just fish to start with. Well i would like help from you guys. Thax guys.

if you dot want corals or liverock then definately not worth keeping a 10gallon as you simply cant keep very much in the way of fish in a tank of this size.

In the world of marines, Liverock is the main form of filtration, if you do not want liverock then you will need to find some other form of filtration, this can be done of course but then you will find you will have nitrate problems usually.
As you wont be keeping corals then lighting isnt an issue so this canbe kept at minimum cost. You will need a skimmer and Iwould suggest a HOB style as an internal one will take up precious room.

Without liverock you may have trouble keeping PH stable so i would recomend aragonite sand to assist in this

Yeah your really going to want to keep live rock, it makes it much more interesting to see fish swimming around on something rather than swimming in circles. Also a 30 gallon long would be easyer to keep stable than a 20, a 55 is really whats best for a starter, esspecially if your not buying live rock (because LR costs a bundle) when you set your system up you can mix 1:2 live sand to Argonite to get a good population of pods to clean up andat a relatively cheep price, goodluck to you.

you should peruse the pinned topics. That's what I did when I wuz starting, that and read a few books. Good luck, and Welcome
