want to breed ramshon(sp?) snails

Tank

vegitation

Sorry for the smartarse answer, but that really is all you need!

It's useful to add a little cuttlebone too if you live in a soft water area.

would it be better in a community tank, or in a seprate one?

if its a seprate one, do they need heat and aeration?

My snails all breed better in my well established planted tanks so I guess that speaks volumes. I'd imagine they need heating and aireation yes. Also the kind waste fish put out and their leftovers etc to feed either directly or indirectly on.

would the fish eat the eggs? And how can you tell which are males and females?

If i'm not mistaken, they lay their eggs above the surface of the water, so that would be safe from fish. Don't know how to tell the difference between males and females though :/

P.T.

Actually, ramshorn snails lay their eggs below the water line. They're little, orange/yellow patches that hatch within a couple of weeks. Some ramshorn snails are hermaphroditic. Just get a couple and you'll have babies in no time at all.

I wouldn't worry about fish eating the eggs because they're pretty compact. Mine usually lay their eggs in the corner of the aquarium or on plants.

I bought 3 ramshorn snails. In a week I had a couple hundred. I'm not exaggerating. I paid 99 cents each. If I could find a way to sell them for that I would retire.

Don't worry about it. It'll happen whether you like it or not.

If you find a way to not get baby snails let me know.

I used to clean my fry tank/snailarium every couple of days, but then stopped because I realised that ,my snails love 'still' and dirtying water. They've bred best I've noticed in this type of water because I now have now more of them.

alos, do they grow quick? My lfs takes in all kinda of aquatic animals, so ill be able to sell them there, so I cant wait to get some.

Because they're so prolific, they're illegal to own/sell/buy in some places (I believe). :shifty:
