Hey guys,
Up untill now i always thought the VT would be the weaker fish in a battle against a Plakat, but i guess i will stand corrected.

I recently devided my 10g into three
Lylac/blue VT|Redish Plakat| Orange VT
So my Orange VT and Red PK were flaring abit for nearly half an hour(dont worry they have loads of tunnels and plants to rest in) and then they stopped and acted normal again, so left to go do other things.
When i came back my O-VT was lip locking with my R-PK! I quickly seperated them and reduced the water level so no jumps, but appears the PK recieved alot more damage then the VT, i always thought the PK would be stronger, i dont know why,
but they're recovering right now, so everythings okay,

Any thoughts on this?

It depends on the individual fish I'm sure, but plakats are usually more ill-temptered and have more stamina because they don't have to carry those heavy fins around. I'd bet the plakat would quickly take the upper hand in a real fight as the VT would probably tire more quickly, but I hope we never find out for sure!

I hope both your fish will be ok.

Interesting bit of info: Bettas have different fighting styles that breeders of fighters breed for. Some go for slow but major attacks, others attack rapidly with many minor hits, and they also target different areas of their opponents. Some favour body hits, others head hits or even caudal peduncle hits. It may be that your VT has better fighting style than your plakat? Judging by my haggy little females, the bettas in my spawn prefer to go for the eyes! We women fight dirty

Thanks for the info Synirr
My Plakat was mainly going for the side of my VT and the VT was going for the caudal fin of my PK, but the Vt was oviously winning.
I just don't know why my Vt has a better style though, he was kept in a much smaller space then my PK at the store -_-

no the plakat would of murdered that vt cause plakats were first made for fighting and they are the true champions of all bettas(fighting anyway lol) that vt like said before would tire out and the plakat would of taken victory

the VT's long fins would ultimately be it's undoing in a real fight. nowhere near as quick as a small finned plakad, remember, a real fight might last a couple of hours, only then would you know for sure.

they are the true champions of all bettas

      Indeed.

Overall- I'm imagining the VT took shots at the finnage of the PK. Rookie mistake :p The PK would have ripped the VT to a shred had you given them long enough, which I'm glad you didn't.

Thanks for the replies :)

I don't think they were fighting for long, so that couldve been it

dude, Leaping Monkey style always wins over Biting Frog.
 Nice one...

I always thought they were trained to fight, i know its in their genes but i thought they were first trained to be killers. This one had been living in a cup the better part of a year(i always used to see him but never had the space to get him) and i wouldnt imagine he is that old(maybe 9/10 months) so i dont think he was trained to be a fighter.

It looks like the VT wanted more, i came into the room to see the VT had jumped again(never knew how high they could jump!) into the PKs side and they were going at it, the VTs fins were shredded and it looked like this time the PK was prepared.(i think my third betta felt left out :p ) The VT is in good health though, eating, exploring his new two gallon bowl where the PK cant get him :p Just his fins are shreded.

Thanks again

As I understand it, a real fighter plakat is bred for fighting and the aggression is natural... all the training does is strengthen the fish and help it to practice and perfect its technique
Ever seen pics of a fighter? In one word: amazing.

I'd love to have a pair just to breed and produce beautiful babies. Their posturing and style is beyond compare

Ah, thanks for clearing that up Synirr :)

Yeah, i've seen those fighters, superior to any others i've seen. I also saw a live match in Singapore, pretty cool IMO, went back the next week, same fish, same owner, still going at it
