what would spawning a VT with a HM result in? Just VTs, maybe some deltas? Vts with wider tail spans? Any ideas would be great! thanks!

Fish that no one will to buy! Unless the VT was from a reputable breeder, and you live in an area where they aren't bursting out of petstores in droves, you'll probably have a very hard time selling such a cross. Not only would they probably come out almost exclusively as VTs, but any of the resulting crosses with traits inbetween would be undesireable to both VT breeders and HM breeders.

Fish no one will buy? Hardly, VTs are the most bought Bettas.

Let me rephrase it. Fish no one but pet stores will buy. No breeder will want them for stock, no shower will want them for show, and unless you can find a pet store who is willing to pay the price for a local small-scale breeder instead of a mass-breeder, even stores are unlikely to buy them. They typically buy from large distributers that sell in bulk for dirt cheap, which would not be very fiscally sound for a small private breeder. Most people selling on this forum are looking to sell to private homes, something that I don't foresee much of in such a mix. After all, why pay $3-5 for a VT cross, plus $20 shipping, when you could just buy the same kind of betta at a pet store without shipping costs?

At any rate, I think it would be mostly VTs, no? I recall hearing something about it being a fairly dominant gene. They might make cute pet-quality bettas if you can find homes. =)

VT + HM = a waste of your time and money :p

hehe. Honestly though, just get a nice HM pair. There is no point in spawning VT's and HM's, at all, when there are plenty of quality HM stock out there, and you can get them for great prices through a local Betta club or a local breeder.

thats what i thought. i just wanted to make sure. maybe get a nice CT and a matching HM and (with patience) start working on breeding half suns. i know that i will need to breed the offspring before i will even have a chance of seeing the half suns.
