I am looking to get a dual 160w 712" VHO fixture for my 135 Tank when I called the 1-800 number the service rep told be that having glass on the top of my tank may reduce the lighting quality of the VHO lights ?? is this true they stated that acrylic is far better

also how hot do they get could I sit the light right on my tank without melting anything ??

it is by far the most expensive piece of gear I have ever bought for any tank I have ever owned...but with the 135 being ( hopefully ) the last tank I'll need I really want to do it right...

Grey,

Have you considered using a compact fluorscent lighting system? They are less expensive, run far cooler and use less electricity.

Or try buying the lights individually from an electrical goods supplier (the ballast for the VHO lights) and then just buying the ubes as you need them.

I did this and saved an absolute packet on my setup.

I wouldn't see glass being any worse than acrylic at allowing light through (so long as its clean).

I would be wary about putting the lightes themselves directly on top of the tank though.
