Hi Guys,

My three ottos in my 120L have been living happily for about 6 months now, and i havent introduced any other fish for a few months. However, over the last 2 weeks i've noticed thta one of them has got progressively fatter around the belly and sides........ This has happened slowly day by day, he/she doesnt seemed stressed or to be acting any different from usually....... I know a fat otto is a happy otto, etc, but this one just seems a little too extreme...!!

So, could 'she' be full of eggs? or is it more likely to be an internal bacterial infection? I figured it has taken to long for her to get fat to be a disease?!?

Any Thoughts??

Hi Plateletboy,

I've got three Oto's myself.

Difficult to say what's happening with your fish. It could be anything or nothing, judging from your description. A fishes' mental aspect could be a good indicator of their health.

You have to ask yourself if the fish appear distressed? Has the fish lost a bit of colour? Are the other Oto's paying more attention to 'her', or less? Does 'she' seem less alert? Sluggish in a good way or bad?

Vague I know, but as I can't see the fish for myself, I hope this'd make up for it.

Good luck. Hope it all works out for the both of you.

What do you feed the algae eaters, is there anything hanging from the anus, what colour is the poo, has the fish darkened in colour or gone pale, try some shelled peas for now, also does the belly look sunken in underneath the fish.
