I've had 3 zebra danios in QT for a little over 2 weeks. Two of them has since I got them been somewhat bloated but I figured they were female and holding eggs. However, while one of them goes from bloated to less bloated one is staying very bloated and looks like it's about to burst! Shouldn't it be dropping eggs and slim up and then build up eggs again? Or am I all wrong?

They are all equally active and swimming around a lot so it's hard to check it out closely but I can't help but think it looks like it's actually ripping up and has some red stripes on it, vertically, like it's not going to hold up. This could be all my imagination though but I am really worried. If this fish is sick I have to remove it from the QT asap.

I had a zebra like this a ways back. It didn't end well. It could be constipation, egg bound or internal parasites. It's impossible to know without training.

I would feed them some frozen peas. Just thaw them, take the tough outer coating off and crush it between your fingers. Place a small amount in the tank. If the fish is eating, it will eat this just as ravenously as any other food, maybe even more so. This would help if the condition is constipation. If it is either of the other two possibilities, then it won't do a thing to help, but it won't hurt either.

I know feed my fish peas like this every week or so. I think it helps keep their digestive system moving along. It must be the extra fiber.

i had two female zebras and one of them was severly bloated too. She was also by FAR the greediest fish.

I bred them (not sure which one) and ended up with about 20 babies that i split and gave to friends. All the female offspring were equally bloated so it may well be a genetic issue. Doesn't seem to affect their behaviour though. My bloated female did eventually die though due to internal haemorrhage. I think she overfed on some sinking pellets i'd put down for my loaches. When i found her, her stomach was clearly filled with blood. Here's how she looked:

Hi All,
Even i am facing the same problem where One of my danio is bloated.
One more problem which i noticed is that this bloated danio is not able to dive deep. This indicates that bloating is due to gas which may be generated due to indigestion.

I ll try feeding peas and update. Meanwhile anyone with valuable feedback please revert.

Thanks in advance
