I realize this fish is probably done for, but its worth trying. I just picked up a sick angelfish from the tank at my school. Nobody there knows much about fish so they have a fish expert come in and run everything once a week. They just added a bunch of new fish, including neons and dyed glassfish (grrr). Today, everything suddenly starting dying, starting with the clown loach, and then one of the angels and one or two of the glassfish. We thought the other angel was dead too, but when they went to pull it out of the tank it started flopping around. I offered to take it and make an effort to save it.
One of the new dyed glassfish had ich, but there's no noticable white spots on the angel's body. I figured it might have been from the ammonia spike from the new fish, so I put him in a tall bucket of dechlorinated tapwater and a bubbler and just let him sit. He's floating near the top of the tank on his side or upside down, looking essentially dead except that his gills are moving regularly and when he's spooked he swims and splashes. It looks as though most of his fins have rotted or been chewed off, although there was minimal aggression in the tank. Anything I can do to help this guy?
Edit: I noticed he had red streaks on his body and realized this sounds a lot like septicemia. I treated him with Maracyn-Two and I'm crossing my fingers.
