I turned my shrimp tank light on last night and for several hours my shrimp, predominantly the 5 crystal red shrimp and the 2 adult amano shrimp being more docile, were swimming all over place! there is only one otocinclus in with them (he's mainly found behind the bits of slate at the back of the tank) so other than that they've got the place to themselves.

is it normal for them to swim and bounce of things, pausing for nibble, then off again, up the glass, behind the filter, all over the place. it's fascinating to watch but I want to be sure that its normal and not them being agitated! they have been shedding and eating as normal and had a 15/20% water change on Sunday. i haven't tested the water as it only just occurred to me it could be agitation rather than just happiness!

Its normal for the males to be flying about when a female is ready to mate, even the female who is ready to mate gets a bit frantic, if you have a mix of males and females, the females not ready to mate should be going about quietly. If all shrimp of different species are flying about then they are trying to escape something in the water that is dangerous to them. Hope its just the mating dance.

Like Liam says, hope it's mating dance. If that's the case, you should see berried females by now :D
