As promised....

Here is a very good article on how to "vent" fish.

For those who are not familiar with the term, "venting" means sexing fish by means of checking their genital papilia.

Right, I understand what I'm supposed to do to find out the difference. Now could someone please explain how I get hold of the damn fish, turn them upside down then check them over against the chart without causing major panic in the tank

What kind of fish are you attempting to vent? This does take some practice. There are a lot of fish that still give me trouble when attepting to sex out for pairs and trios.

i have an easier, tried and true way of venting fish. also works on determining the name of fish.

you carefully after many hours of destroying the tank to do it, net the fish. carfully place the fish in a fish bag minus all of the gravel and fish poop that you also scooped along the way. fill the bag with air and tie off. jump into your car and run it over to cichlidmaster's house. extend your arm with the bag in hand and state" duh... what is this?"
