Hi

Has anybody had any experience of Venezuelan Corys?

Was thinking of getting some from local LFS but at 9.95 are rather pricey? Do you think it would be worth it? They do look fabulous!!!

I got some in recently and are at that price, mine are about 3cm long some bigger others smaller. They looked like long thin bronze corys to me for ages and now they are suddenly colouring up and they look fantastic! They seem so much more active than other species too.

TBH that price is the way most cory prices are going these days, was horrified to find Sterbais are about the same price as the Venezualans!!

You might want to talk to my boyfriend about those. His username name is 'Duz'.
He's had a black Venezuelan Cory for quite a while now and it seems to be really happy and healthy. I'm secretly quite jealous, they're really nice fish!

I think that price seems fair. My lfs was selling peruvian lazer corydoras and they were $30.00 per fish. They were stunning but wayyyy too much for me. He did sell out within a couple of days though. I say if you like them and they don't come in too often, they are worth that price IMO.

Venezuelan corys are amazing, but thats only because I love them. :D

I brought the last ever venezuelan cory from my lfs and I keep asking for them to let me know if they get any more in but sadly they can't get hold of any. :( Although they like to be kept in shoals mine has done perfectly fine without being in 1. Saying that I do keep him/her with other cories, and I do see them swimming around together, so they get on just fine. I would recommend getting a shoal of them as this will make them happier than if they are with different species of corys.

They grow to about 3cm long and are a lovely black colour with a white under belly (don't know if thats the correct name for it), they are an active fish which means the bottom of your tank is never boring. :good: However, venezuelan corys can be susceptible to fin rot. If the water conditions change even slightly you may notice a slight bit of fin rot on the dorsal fin. If you do a water change they will be perfectly fine afterwards and they will normally recover in just a few days. If the fin rot stays then you may want to think about adding medicines likewise if they keep getting rin rot you may want to do water changes more often. Mine gets it maybe once or twice a year if I forget to do a water change by a few days.

But other than that they are lovely little fish. Had mine for almost 4 years and I would love a few more but my lfs never seems to get them in. :(

You guys have talked me into getting them!!!

Just purchased 5 of them for forty quid :-( Best not tell the boss

They are lovely.

I don't think you will regret it. They are lovely fish, makes me want some more now. :(

They are very active and so fun to watch.

All 5 of them love swimming through the air bubbles and try swimming against the flo of the filter.

They are fantastic.

got a world of water near me with about 30 in a tank at £5 a pop

Cannot recall the price, but the Romsey World Of Water had some small specimens in a tank that also contained quite a number of Adolfoi this afternoon.
