Hi all, (I also posted this in Fish Emergencies)

To my dismay, I noticed that my beautiful boyfin Ferdinand has velvet (at least I think that's what it is, I've never seen it before, but he has a grayish patch on his head, and what looks like gold dust on his ventral fins). I feel like a horrible fish mommy! I try to do everything right, weekly 95% WC (is that too much?), varied diet... *sigh*

Anyway, I want to make sure I'm treating the velvet correctly, so it will go away! Ferdie is a Betta, BTW. He lives in a 2.5 gal tank with heater (stays at about 74F). I have added 2 teaspoons of aquarium salt, and IchX (according to the instructions, it broke down to about 1/4 teaspoon for the whole tank). I know I should do a 1/3 WC before adding more meds and salt tomorrow, and I'm trying to keep the tank as dark as possible...
Am I doing this all correctly? How long should I medicate for? Thanks!

The greyish patch on the head sounds like columnaris, what are your test results in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, salt is good as columnaris desease dosn't like it, velvet looks like a gold dusting on the fish.

He definitely looks like he has gold dusting on his ventral fins, but his head looks kind of grayish (which I was told could be velvet too). The IchX I'm using also treats velvet and a few other diseases (but not sure, as I'm at work and the bottle is at home). Will test his tank parameters when I get home, but in the past everythings been good...

OK, I'm home now and tested all the tanks: All tanks (betta bachelor pads):

NitrAte 0, NitrIte 0, Ammonia 0, Hardness 120, Alkalinity 0
pH 7

He's more active tonight and still eating...
