Hi, all,

As many of you know, I've had some problems with my cory friends, mainly trilis. They've all settled down nicely now, and I'm wondering if I should just leave well enough alone or try and boost the numbers of the ones that are short in number.

I started out with 14 trilis, and I'm now down to one girl. She's in the same tank with lots of peppers and greens, her barbels are growing back nicely and she's looking the picture of health. These are in my 29g.

In my 55g I have 4 delphax and 1 aggassizii. The LFS only had the four delphax and 2 agassizii, but one died quite soon after I got him home for reasons unknown. The five that are left are close friends.

I've had two rounds of eggs in the 29g. None survived, but that tells me things are going well in that tank, yes?

Anyone have suggestions?

Do you have a quarantine tank and have you had a look for local breeders?

Egg laying should not be looked upon as a sign of "quality water" or "safe habitat" corys are pretty dumb and will often lay eggs when they please. My Trio of Delphax are ever so shy in my 5 foot tank, rarely see them during the day, i desperately want to get another 3 of them and i suggest you bump up the numbers also. I see no reason for not blowing some cash on some new stock, maybe introduce them 3/4 at a time and see how it goes :) gluck!

I've worked really hard to get my water quality top notch and think I have. And it's not the cash outlay, but the welfare of my fish I'm thinking about when asking about numbers. I'm more concerned about my lone trili than the bigger ones.

If you can afford it and can quarantine for 6-8+ weeks, then it's worth it, I think. I would water change from the main tank to make sure they are used to the water and drip-acclimatise them when you first get them.

Um, I can afford to have a q tank, but with what in it? This is what I've been asking. I know how to introduce new fish!

Well, with Corys in it: how ever many it takes to increase the groups to 6 per species. If your LFS doesn't have the right species, then wait until they do, or ask them to order the fish in. If you have more space after that, then it would be nice if you could get the numbers closer to 10 per species.

Yikes, I kinda figured with corys in it!

I was trying to get your opinion on whether you think I do have room for more trilis in my 29g to join my single one, and also if you think it's a good idea to get more delphax and agassizii for the 55g.

Sorry hun, you're gonna have to figure out that bit on your own! Just go by what you feel is right, or maybe stock slowly and stop when the maintenance will get too much for you.
