Anyone know anything about the vampire knife fish or human face knife fish? I think protergus nattereri is the scientific name. I looked online, but couldn't find anything about them.

Suspect you mean Sternarchogiton nattereri. It's an unusual species that develops teeth on the outside of its mouth. It's a member of the same group as the Black Ghost Knifefish, so will need the same good water quality and high oxygen levels as that species. But it's a more specialised feeder, as far as I know only recorded as having fed on freshwater sponges. Maximum length ~25 cm.

Not seen it traded, and have absolutely no idea if it adapts to a more manageable diet. There are of course sponge-rich foods sold for marine angelfish, but that'd be a long shot.

Cheers, Neale

THANK YOU. I've been trying to find out what my knife fish was, and no one could tell me. When I finally did, I had the wrong name..

Apparently they like bloodworms, at least my little one does (already hand feeding). I've only had him for about 36 hours, and I can easily say, this is definitely one of my favourites, absolutely love it. And it's adjusting pretty well too, especially for a wild caught fish.

Glad to help, and good to know the fish *is* eating alternative foods. Good luck! Neale
