I need a poop cleaner to hoover up my tank in-between water changes. I do a water change once a week but still get a lot of fish poo during the week are these battery operated vacuum cleaners any good and will they be al-right on sand?

I do have a normal gravel cleaner but the battery one has a filter bag connected to it and I think you can vacuum the tank up without syphoning out the water.

I bought one of those battery operated ones off Ebay a few weeks ago and it was a complete waste of money, absolutely useless, the specialist batteries for it weren't too cheap either. It all went in the bin so I'm sticking to a standard gravel cleaner now.

ha ha ha ha you must of read my mind i have
tried two types of battery cleaner one of
which was a very expensive make eheim one
only to sell it a month later co'z it was
rubbish

I won't bother with one of them then thanks for replies. What about nappies

Ho Ho, do we all get 'sucked' into buying these useless items?

I bought one of those battery operated gizmo's with the little bag hanging off the side (years ago, btw) By the time I waved the blessed thing around my tank I had knocked everything over, uprooted plants and what I had actually sucked up wasn't worth mentioning!

BTW if you are gravel vaccing every week and yet still having poo everywhere then it may be safe to say that you are overfeeding maybe? :shifty: (unless you have a tank of plecos, aka #105###e machines....whoops, sorry mods! )

why not try one of these
i find they work better
and a lot cheaper but you
do need a good air pump

you know like the air lift things
when there doing a ship wreck they
pump air at the end of the pipe on the
vacuum and i creates a current that picks up the mulm
and it passes in to the bag it just like a battery
one except air powered they work quite well for a quick
hoover round

Sounds good I might have to try one of those ones thanks :)
