Hi Guys & Gals,

Need your help urgently. My nitrate reading from the tap is 100 mg/I+, what options have I got. Am worried my two Fantails will not tolerate these levels too long. Tank is planted and fully cycled.

Thanks.

The best thing to do is larger water changes to bring it down. What is the nitrate reading coming from tap water?
How often are you doung water changes and how much each time?

For now do 50% each day until its at a more manageable level.

If your nitrates start to creep up again then this should be your cue to step up water changes.

The nitrate reading from the tap is 100mg/I+. I do a 25% water change weekly, heard about RO what other options do I have.

If your nitrate from the tap is 100 then you cant lower it with water changes, wow thats high.
Best ask in the hardware or planted forum about RO.

That's very high, no wonder your readings were so high. You didn't have to do anything for them to get that high all you needed was add water from the tap. There are products that remove nitrates and other chemicals which you can put in the filter but i find them expensive.

someone suggested to me earlier to try getting water from another source. I have ammonia and nitrite in my tap water!
