UV works?

We jsut bought a pond filter thing is were a little wary on it 200 dollars and it has a UV, The cheapest i have seen UV alone for is 200 dollars it is a 9 watt bulb rated for a 750 gallon pond, and we have a wicked algae problem. Is this filter too cheap to handle it amybe

seems about right to me i paid 80 pound for mine combined with uv thats about 150 canadian i think
