Are they worth it? What ones are rated better? I wasn't too sure where to put this topic, but I figured here would be the best. I have a 46 gallon tank with two Aquaclear 50s. I've got a 110 watt CF light. Tons of plants. It's been running for around 6-7 months. I've had an algae bloom, I took care of it, then got a bacteria bloom. Now i've got another algae bloom. I'm kinda tired of dealing with it, so i'm thinking of a better solution. Maybe you guys can suggest something else. Is it worth it though to really get a UV Sterilizer? Any cons? Any pros?

UV sterilisers will maybe get rid of the algae bloom, but the bloom is a symptom of a problem. The UV will not remove the problem. If you have algae blooms, post you setup details in the planted tank area. You'll get help finding the root, (groan!), cause there.

Here is an article you might find either interesting or mind numbingly boring, but it is positive about UV and increased fish health.

Dave.

Uv unit are very useful to some, but remember, it kills bacteria, all or most. not all bacteria in the tank are bad, however UV cant tell which is which. IMO as a cure for a problem, though Lateral Line has a very good point, they are without peer, but i would feel less than sure that it is needed on a day to day basis. though my comments are valid only for the average Fresh water tank.
