I was looking at maybe getting a UV sterilizer for my 20 gallon, as to minimize the risk and chances of any future parasitic/bacterial/fungal infections following the devastating ich epidemic i had a while ago. I have some questions...Can it be for freshwater? How do I install it? How does it connect to the water source if its not in-line? Do they work for power filter?

Yes you can use them on fresh water tanks. The best would be a hang on the tank unit, that would be powered by a small powerhead, or canister filter return. The other option would be one of the new in tank units that are out.

Which one are the "new in tank units that are out"?
I found this one, supposed to be really good

That is a good unit, needs a good size powerhead to run it. The internal one I was thinking of I've seen at petsmart. Here's a link

Sorry, I copied it off my cell, not thinking it was a mobile site. Try this one, http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2750628&lmdn=Fish

As conviniant as that one is, its too big for my tank, at least too big to be hidden every easily. How would one install one as a hang-on?

I haven't dealt with the turbo twist in years. If I remember correctly, there are brackets for tank mounting, then you would need to run hoses in and out with a 200-300 gph pump. I'm going off of memory so don't quote me on that. You may also want to check out www.truaqua.com one of their products was recently reviewed in AFI and was viewed favorably.
