a friend of a friend swears by them. ive seen pleanty of them on ebay at reasonable prices.

do they affect the plant life in the tank? as they kill off algae will they kill plants off too?

it kills off green water (won't affect your plants) and supposedly removes all the parasites from your water (I have seen how quickly it's cleared up a case of ich) and the water is crystal clear. Which one have you been looking at?

I have the bigger version of the last link in my tank, cheap cheerful and it does the job. Because I have an external filter the only hardware in the tank is the heater and that, and both are easily hidden by plants.
