Hi all

I bought some lovely piece of live rock around 16 kg in total including a gorgeous branch rock. I can see loads of sponges, worms and plants as well as lots of purple algae.

Would adding plankton to my water help these critters grow and prosper?

I find all the critters on my LR do just fine without adding phyto, or anything else for that matter. Worms scavange, and would probably ignore phyto, plants gain the source of food from photosynthesis, so just supply good lighting, and sponges, IME, dont need any additional food to what they pull from the water. :good:

However, what sponges pull from the water is phyto.

If you do not have a skimmer on the tank phyo will help the sponges, tubeworms, pod populations, and any bivalves you may have. However, it will probably increse the nutrient load and your water will be a pale greenish color.

I've got a skimmer already a berlin airlift from red sea.

Is it worth doing then?
