I believe I have an outbreak of ich in my planted 6 gallon tank. One platy is showing spots, and another is flashing. I gave the one with spots a salt bath, and am treating the tank with Maracide - med for external parasites. You are supposed to treat for 5 days on days 1, 3, and 5 with 1 capful per 5 gallons. Do you think I should follow the directions? I have read a lot of conflicting information on the subject, so I don't know what to do. Some people say treat daily for 2 weeks, blah blah. What has worked well for y'all?? I just don't know what to do... I don't want to lose all my fish. I have two croaking gouramis in there that I totally adore and couldn't bear to lose.

Hi Juliethegr8te :)

For Ich I use a prepared medication, salt at the rate of 1 Tablespoon per each 5 gallons of water, and turn the heat up to 80-82 degrees. I follow the instructions on the medicine and treat the tank for twice as long as is indicated.

Ich can be persistent and I would rather over treat than have a relapse and have to go through the whole thing again, perhaps losing fish in the process.
